MassageLuXe creates low-commitment facial service to drive member retention and growth.

MassageLuXe has introduced the Express Refresh Facial, a 30-minute service aimed at helping first-time guests experience facials without the commitment of a full hour. This innovation is expected to increase overall facial service capacity and drive recurring member revenue, which is vital to the brand's business model. The initiative addresses existing challenges in the spa industry by reducing barriers to entry for new clients.
By implementing a shorter facial service, MassageLuXe may improve customer retention and increase overall sales, positively impacting unit economics for franchisees. This may attract a broader client base unfamiliar with facial services, boosting foot traffic and potential revenue.
MassageLuXe, a skincare and massage franchise, has developed a new service called the Express Refresh Facial, aimed at increasing customer engagement and conversion. According to President and CEO Kristen Pechacek, while massages constitute about 80% of the spa’s services, converting massage clients into facial clients represents a significant opportunity. Although over 20% of the population receives a massage each year, far fewer have experienced a professional facial, presenting a challenge in introducing this service. Pechacek stated, “Facials are one of those services where, once you get one, you go, 'whoa, this is really relaxing, really nice.' But you have to experience one in order to really appreciate it."
To address this, MassageLuXe previously offered only full-hour facials but faced difficulties in cross-selling this longer service to massage clients. The Express Refresh Facial is a 30-minute service designed to lower the commitment barrier, allowing first-time users to experience facials without the pressure of a full-hour commitment. This shift not only enhances the customer experience but also effectively doubles the facial service capacity during the same time slot, integrating this new offering into the frequently established routine of a typical 90-minute massage visit.
This innovative approach is part of MassageLuXe’s strategy to build recurring revenue, as approximately 70% of the company's revenue relies on monthly paying members primarily enrolled in massage services. The introduction of the Express Refresh Facial aims to drive repeat business as clients who try this shorter service may be more inclined to book a full facial in subsequent visits.
As the rollout of this service progresses across franchises, operators should monitor customer reception and booking trends closely. The future success of this initiative in increasing facial service engagement will depend on how effectively it converts first-time users into regular customers willing to explore broader skincare treatments.
